DOMINGO MOZART PRAGUE 2019

27 JANUARY 2019

ESTATES THEATRE, PRAGUE

THE ANNIVERSARY OF W. A. MOZART'S BIRTHDAY

Following an exceptionally successful event of the year 2017, celebrating 230th anniversary of W. A. Mozart’s Don Giovanni premiere in the Estates Theatre, Maestro Plácido Domingo, who conducted the opera last year,

is coming back to Prague. The event had a strong media coverage as well as positive responses from both media and the audience and participants. Thanks

to the personage of Maestro Plácido Domingo,

the event was ranked one of the most significant European cultural events of the year.

This time, Maestro Plácido Domingo is coming back with a concert to celebrate the anniversary of W. A. Mozart’s birthday on 27th January 2019 in the Estates Theatre

in Prague, the only preserved theatre in which

W. A. Mozart conducted his operas.

The project is being prepared in co-production

with The National Theatre.

The Estates Theatre (originally named the Count Nostitz Theatre and Tyl's Theatre during the socialism) is one

of the most beautiful historic theatre buildings in Europe.

Mozart himself performed in the theatre after his arrival

to Prague in 1787, conducting The Marriage of Figaro,

which was declined in Vienna, on 20th January. The thrill

of the people of Prague was enormous. The composer

was moved by such response and decided to compose an opera specially for Prague - Don Giovanni, whose full name was ‘Il dissoluto punito ossia il Don Giovanni’, based

on the story of Don Juan. Mozart conducted the premiere

of the opera on 29th October 1787 himself.

The Don Giovanni opera helped the Estates Theatre renowned as the theatre of W. A. Mozart's operas

in the cultural world. Today, the Estates Theatre is the only preserved theatre where Mozart used to conduct.
